Trustees

There are a number of different “bankruptcy trustees.” The United States trustee program provides supervision for the entire system; they rarely get involved in individual cases unless there’s some kind of problem. On the other hand, every individual bankruptcy case is supervised by a local trustee specifically appointed to that case. In Topeka and many other bankruptcy courts, there is just one Chapter 13 trustee, but several Chapter 7 Trustees. When a bankruptcy case is filed, the trustee is assigned immediately, and the debtor is notified – repeatedly! – of the trustee’s name, phone number, and address.
